MV St Faith was launched on 28th February 1990 at the yard of Cochrane Shipbuilders, Selby, Yorkshire, by Mrs Jacky Field, wife of the Island's Member of Parliament.  The ship is a sister of St Cecilia and the second car ferry to be built in Selby for the Isle of Wight service. She sailed on her inaugural cruise on 11th July 1990 and entered service on the Portsmouth - Fishbourne route under the Sealink British Ferries livery later that month. On 7th November 1990 she became the first ship on the route to sail under the new Wightlink Isle of Wight Ferries livery. St Faith, like her sisters St Catherine, St Helen and St Cecilia is specifically designed for this very busy route and can only operate between the two purpose built termini at Gunwharf, Portsmouth and Fishbourne in Wootton Creek. St Faith continues the tradition on the route by being named after a female saint with Island connections, and takes her name from the church of St Faith at Cowes.
