Wightlink Isle of Wight Ferries, the market leader in cross
Solent ferry services, has recently installed drinking water
coolers for its crew onboard their fleet of car ferries,
supplied by Gosport based AquAid.
As a
result of the new installation, AquAid has been able to
supply two Elephant pumps to Africa which are being
installed in Wightlink’s name. These pumps can be operated
and maintained without outside assistance, thus enabling
schools and villages on the continent to become self
sufficient with water.
Each
time Wightlink purchases refills of water for its water
coolers a proportion of the cost goes to a charity call Pump
Aid, the organisation that is responsible for building the
wells and installing the pumps in villages throughout
Africa. The net result is that children can attend school
and drink the water supplied by the Elephant pump, free from
the danger of cholera and other waterborne diseases.
Wightlink has been presented with a certificate from AquAid
recognising the company’s commitment in helping to save the
lives of some of the world’s poorest children by using
AquAid products.
Kerry Jackson, Marketing Manager for Wightlink, commented: -
“By
the simple act of buying our cool, fresh drinking water from
AquAid, we are able to do our small bit to help alleviate
disease in Africa.
“It
is good to know that something as simple as buying water has
a knock on effect for children thousands of miles away, thus
making their lives, and the lives of their parents, that
much better.”
