Wightlink Sponsors Royal Lymington Yacht Club Races

Wightlink Isle of Wight Ferries, the market leader in cross Solent ferry services, is to sponsor the Royal Lymington Yacht Club’s Thursday Evening Keelboat Series for the third year running.

The weekly series of races, which take place between April and September each year, are one of the most popular events in the Club’s racing programme and attract over 120 boats and between 600 and 700 sailors.  Amongst the classes taking part are X Boats, Folkboats and yachts complying with the Lymington Handicap System.

The series is hotly contested with some of Lymington’s top sailors regularly taking part and overall prizes are awarded for each individual class. With Wightlink being so much part of the Lymington River scene, it is appropriate that it should be involved in close co-operation with local yachts clubs, and this sponsorship is an example of such an arrangement.

Commenting on Wightlink’s continuing sponsorship of the Thursday Evening Keelboat Series, Ian Gawn, Secretary of the Royal Lymington Yacht Club, said: -

“We are delighted to have Wightlink as sponsors of this popular series of races for the second year running. “

“We value the close co-operation we have between the Club and Wightlink and this sponsorship will enable us to run a successful series for the benefit of our members and the racing programme as a whole.”

Kerry Jackson, Wightlink’s Marketing Manager, said: -

“We at Wightlink have enjoyed a long and beneficial relationship with the Royal Lymington Yacht Club and we are pleased to be able to assist the Club with its racing programme by way of this sponsorship.  With both Wightlink and the Club as major users of the Lymington River, we work closely together to ensure the safety of those sailing in the river and the clear passage of our car ferries.”
