Wightlink Call Centre staff got right
into the fundraising mood on Friday 26th October, raising
£250 for ‘Wear It Pink’ day by dressing in pink and holding
a raffle.
This was all in the cause of Breast
Cancer Awareness Month, a national event which proved to be
a huge success with individuals, companies, hospitals, local
authorities, universities and schools the length and breadth
of the country, wearing it pink to show their support. The
money supporters have raised makes a real difference and
will fund vital breast cancer research - a disease that one
woman in nine is diagnosed with in the UK.
Wightlink’s contribution of £250 was
matched by the company to make a total of £500, all of which
will go towards the national total which is expected to be
tens of millions of pounds.
The theme of Wightlink’s fundraising was
a raffle, a dress down day and also a collection to raise
ransom money to retrieve a toy owl which was ‘kidnapped’
from The Call Centre after being donated by Wightlink’s
Coffee Quay at the Portsmouth Harbour terminal for the
Raffle Draw, the staff within the Call Centre raised the
funds to pay a ‘ransom’ to ensure the owl’s safe return (who
is currently a department mascot and travelling the world).
Commenting on the fundraising efforts,
Kerry Jackson, Wightlink’s Marketing Manager, said, “the
staff at the Call Centre put a great deal of effort into
Wear It Pink Day and we are all proud that their small
contribution to a very worthwhile cause will go some way
towards helping the funding of research into breast cancer".
“Such was the enthusiasm that I can see
this possibly turning into an annual event, with more
members of staff taking part in the future.”
