Wightlink To Continue Student Season Ticket Fares After Success Of Existing Scheme

Wightlink Isle of Wight Ferries, the market leader in cross Solent ferry services, is to continue its student season ticket fares for the 2007/8 education year starting in September for students resident on the Island and who are in full time education on the mainland.

The decision to carry on with the student fares is as a direct result of the success of the scheme introduced last year.  The special student fare is equivalent to the current child fare which is exactly half the normal adult price. To qualify for the fare, students should be aged between 16 and 18 and be in full time secondary education on the mainland.

To benefit from the fare students will need to apply in writing to Wightlink with a letter from the school or college they attend, giving details of the exams or courses for which they are studying. They will also have to provide formal proof of their age. Application forms for the student ticket are available at all Wightlink ticket offices or here.

The ticket will apply to all crossings of the Solent undertaken by the qualifying students and not just those to and from their place of education. Tickets can be purchased for periods of one month, three months, or a full year.

Commenting on the continuation of the student fares scheme, Kerry Jackson, Marketing Manager for Wightlink Isle of Wight Ferries, said: -

“After the huge success of the student fares scheme we introduced last year, we have decided to continue it for the next education year starting in September. The purpose behind this fare is to help students who are in full time higher education cope more easily with the expense of travelling to their particular college.

“We hope it will encourage those who might be considering a full time course on the mainland to sign up for it, and for those already studying we hope it will enable them to use Wightlink on a more regular basis for trips other than to and from college.”

ENDS                                                                                                                     9th July 2007
