As Valentine’s Day falls on a Thursday
this year, sweethearts can choose from either a romantic
weekend getaway or a midweek break on the lover’s day
itself. Cross-Solent operator Wightlink (0871 376 1000) has
scoured the ‘Diamond Isle’ to find suitable rooms for
diehard romantics and is this year recommending The
Enchanted Manor and Sentry Mead, two of its Green Getaways
collection of eco-friendly hotels.
AN ENCHANTED EXPERIENCE:
Stay in a magical house packed with
fairies, angels and all manner of fantastic creations on a
visit to one of the Isle of Wight’s newest hotels, The
Enchanted Manor. Owners Ric and Maggie Hilton have created
a magical, mystical environment at their Victorian manor
house by using the fantasy paintings of Josephine Wall and
extending her fantastic vision throughout the hotel. There
are colourful paintings, wall murals, a hall bedecked with
glittering lights and evocative stained glass windows – all
helping to create a tranquil, romantic atmosphere, ideal for
Valentiners.
There are just seven luxury suites at The
Enchanted Manor, which stands in an acre of woodland that
stretches down to the sea at south coast Niton. Large and
with high ceilings characteristic of Victorian mansions, no
two suites are alike. Each one has its own individual
character defined by one of Josephine Wall’s artworks and
boasts ornate hand carved French four poster beds, Venetian
glass chandeliers and exquisite bathrooms, featuring roll
top baths and deluxe showers with water jets.
Available for four-night Valentine Breaks
from Monday 11th- Friday 15th February or three-night breaks
from Friday 15th- Monday 18th February, the cost per person
is £295 and this includes B&B accommodation, return
Wightlink car ferry crossing from Portsmouth or Lymington
and Valentine’s extras like red roses, a bottle of champagne
and a special cake.
GOURMET EXPERIENCE AT SENTRY MEAD
The emphasis for Valentine’s Day at this
imposing Victorian mansion by the seaside in undiscovered
West Wight is on food. Chef Martyn Cutler dreams up wildly
imaginative menus for the restaurant every day – but he’s
planning a special gala dinner for lovers on Valentine’s Day
evening. Close to Totland, one of the Island’s most
unspoiled beaches, the friendly family-run hotel is elegant
in style, with colourful gardens, an imaginative restaurant
menu, and a teddy bear in every bedroom!
Two night Valentine’s breaks at Sentry
Mead from 13th-15th February cost £150 per person and
include B&B accommodation, Gala dinner for Valentine’s Day
and Wightlink ferry crossings from Portsmouth or Lymington.
