Wight Satin Ladies Barber Shop Chorus Sings For Children In Need On Wightlink’s Fishbourne Ferry

Twenty five members of the Wight Satin Ladies Barbershop Chorus will be serenading the passengers on Wightlink’s Fishbourne to Portsmouth car ferry service on the afternoon of Sunday 23rd September in aid of Children in Need.

The ladies of the group will be singing their melodic close harmonies on the 1300 sailing from Fishbourne and the 1630 sailing from Gunwharf, so passengers travelling both to and from the Island will benefit from their dulcet tones.

Their feature song for this year’s fundraising event is ‘Pudsey Bear’ which has been specially written for the occasion and is sung to the tune of ‘King of the Road’. The group has received full copyright clearance to sing it in public.

Amongst the other songs the Wight Satin Ladies Barbershop Chorus will sing on board will be: -

Look Out World, Country Roads, Rubber Duckie, I Feel A Song Coming On and Over the Rainbow.

This November marks the 20th anniversary of the group who practice regularly every Thursday at Carisbrooke Primary School. Their ages range from as young as 12, right up to 85, and new members are always welcome.

In March this year they won the Barbershop section of the Isle of Wight Music Festival, gaining the highest marks in both the Senior and Junior vocal and choir sections, so passengers on the Wightlink ferry on 23rd September are in for a big treat.

Commenting on the forthcoming event, Kerry Jackson, Marketing Manager for Wightlink Isle of Wight Ferries, said: -

“We thought we would do something different for this year’s Children in Need, and when the Wight Satin Ladies Barbershop Chorus offered to sing on board one of our ferries to raise money for the charity, it seemed a great idea to us. With their close harmony and quality of singing, I know they will delight everyone on board and we wish them great success in their fundraising efforts.”

ENDS                                                                                         13th September 2007
