Osborne House gives you a unique glimpse into the cherished home and private lives of Queen Victoria, Prince Albert and their nine children. Inside the lavishly styled summer residence, you can take walk through the richly decorated Royal Apartments including the Indian-inspired Durbar Room, the less formal private rooms and the children’s nursery.
Outside, explore the extensive grounds with a sweeping view across the Solent that reminded Prince Albert of the Bay of Naples. Wander down to the once private beach, complete with the Queen’s carefully restored bathing machine and the alcove from where she took in the view. Spot seabirds from the shore, enjoy traditional entertainment and take a nostalgic trip in an elegant Victorian carriage!
Don’t miss the charming Swiss Cottage, built to teach the royal children the art of household management. Follow the garden trail and let the little ones discover the play area where they can experience for themselves how the children of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert played and learnt in this very special place.
“It is impossible to imagine a prettier spot” were the words of Queen Victoria after her first visit to Osborne … and we couldn’t agree more.
