The Federation of the Church Schools of Shalfleet and Yarmouth are two Primary Schools both based in vibrant communities in the west of the Isle of Wight. When they applied for their Green Fund for Schools funding, they told us:

“We plan to introduce a ‘Recycling More at School’ initiative at both schools. We would like to introduce large wooden composter, a wormery and visible recycling bins for the children to use throughout their school day.

During Forest School sessions we hope to use the composters and wormery to educate the children further about recycling and give them hands on, practical experiences by using the compost they have generated in our outdoor growing areas. We will also use the visible recycling bins within our PHSE lessons to promote the ongoing benefits of reducing waste and recycling, avoiding landfill wherever possible!

Our After School Gardening club would greatly benefit from the composter and wormery, creating quality compost for the children to grow their produce, which in turn promotes healthy eating. Brightly coloured recycle bins, will provide beacons around the school, bringing recycling to the forefront of the children’s mind whilst navigating the school.”

More to follow soon – the schools are moving location.
