Wight on wheels

You don’t have to go abroad to enjoy the world’s best cycling. Don’t just take our word for it, see what Lonely Planet has to say.

The Isle of Wight was tailor-made for great cycling with over 200 miles of cycle routes through some of the most scenic countryside in the UK. It’s as little as a 22 minute short ferry crossing from Portsmouth, yet a real escape from everyday life with room to breathe.

The Island is a hot destination for a cycling holiday, short break or even a day trip. With over 30 miles of Heritage Coast and half the Island designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, there’s a great variety of terrain. From level countryside trails and quiet lanes to challenging hill climbs and everything in between, cyclists of all levels will enjoy an amazing pedal-powered experience.

So bring the family or a group of friends for a gentle ride down to the beach, through national nature reserves or to a friendly local pub. Or fine tune your mountain bike and head for the high downs where spectacular gradients and amazing sea views are guaranteed.

And don’t forget, Wightlink carries bikes for free*, or you can hire a bike when you’re here. * Terms & Conditions: Each foot passenger can bring one bicycle on free of charge. Vehicles carrying bicycles will be charged an additional cost if the bicycles add additional height or length to your vehicle – see Vehicle size guide for details.
