Planted alongside 150 mature apple trees in a West Wight orchard at the Apple Farm at Afton Park, the Mongolian-style yurts run by Alison Martin and Anthony Davies of the Really Green Holiday Company offer ‘glamping,’ a great alternative for people who like to commune with nature but want creature comforts too.
They get these in spades on a Really Green holiday, where the luxurious yurts come with a real bed – a four poster or Victorian iron one. 16ft in diameter, the yurts have proper furniture and all the equipment you would expect in a holiday cottage. With wooden floors and a wood-burning stove, this is not your average camping experience and some have a circular skylight for chill-out stargazing.
What makes Afton’s yurts even more special is the eco- focus that’s an integral part of the experience. “We offer holidays that are as environmentally-friendly as possible – using solar power and cutting out almost all our waste through recycling and composting – but we don’t compromise on comfort,” explains Alison Martin.
