The writer Charles Dickens was born in this house in Portsmouth in 1812. The house is now preserved as a museum furnished in the style of 1809 which is when John and Elizabeth Dickens set up home at the beginning of their married life there.

Opening Times and Special Events

Open: April-September, 10am-5.30pm (with exception to special events listed below)

Friday 11 February 2011 - Opening to mark the birthday of Charles Dickens, with special readings. Free admission.

On the first Sunday of each month (April-September) - come and hear readings from a selection of Charles Dickens' works, by members of the Dickens Fellowship. The readings take place at 11.00am and 3.00pm and are included in the admission price.
