Paragliding
The dream of flying freely with the birds has captured the imagination of people throughout the ages. Now, with the combination of advanced aerodynamics and space age materials, it is now possible for almost anyone to fulfil this dream through paragliding. The sport began in the mid-1980s and is probably the purest and simplest form of free flight.
A paraglider is launched from a hill or cliff and is simple to control, safe to fly and one of the quickest forms of aviation to learn.
The unique Isle of Wight weather provides a large number of flying days. Couple that with 12 flying sites within a 10-mile radius and the advantages of this lovely corner of the world becomes clear. As a result, the Island has been the training ground for a large number of the UK's top pilots and has produced British and World Paragliding champions.
