The Isle of Wight is a great place to go on holiday with a toddler. It is really easy to get to, but you still have the excitement of catching a ferry across the Solent, and at just 45 minutes the short crossing is ideal for fidgety toddlers who can’t sit still for long. Once you get there, you are rewarded with miles upon miles of sandy beaches and loads of toddler-tastic days out.

5 Of The Best Things To Do On The Isle Of Wight With Toddlers

I spent a week in the Isle of Wight in the summer with my family, and these are my recommendations on the best days out for toddlers on the Isle of Wight.

1. Isle Of Wight Steam Railway

A day out on The Isle of Wight Steam Railway is a must when you are on holiday on the Isle of Wight.

At just 20 minutes long, the Isle of Wight Steam Railway is perfect for toddlers who don’t like to sit still. As well as riding on some beautiful restored steam trains, there is also an ice cream shop, nature trail, Train Story museum and regular Bird of Prey demonstrations.

Book online for the cheapest prices.

2. The Garlic Farm

The Garlic Farm is a unique place to go on the Isle of Wight, and there is plenty here for toddlers.

There is a nature trail around the farm where, depending on the time of year, you can see people picking the garlic.

There is also few animals, a great café and ice cream parlour which serves black garlic ice cream (it tastes better than it sounds!).

3. The Model Village at Godshill

The Model Village at Godshill is a miniature version of the Godshill and Shanklin areas of the Isle of Wight complete with a little train which carries dinosaurs and tigers!

It takes about an hour to enjoy the model village and is well worth a visit.

Cost – Adults – £4.75 and Children (aged 3-15) – £3.75

4. The Donkey Sanctuary

The Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary is home to over 100 donkeys, ponies and horses which are in need of a loving and caring home.

Toddlers can meet the donkeys, stroke them and give them a little brush – a great day out!

Cost – Free, but donations are welcome.

5. The Dinosaur Isle

Britain’s first purpose built dinosaur museum is great for a rainy day on the Isle of Wight.

There are hands on dinosaur exhibits and fossils as well as special seasonal events such as fossil walks.

Top Tip – Tesco Clubcard vouchers can be used to pay for tickets here.

Costs – Adults £5, Children £4, Under 3’s are free.
