Samba rhythms at Wightlink’s Fishbourne terminal

Wightlink is supporting Raw Samba musicians to play at a series of performances on the mainland in the coming year. To say ‘thank you’, several Raw Samba members descended on Wightlink’s Fishbourne terminal to give an impromptu gig.

Stella Johnstone from Raw Samba says: “We have a number of mainland performances this year and the support of Wightlink in terms of free foot passenger travel makes all the difference to us. Thanks to Wightlink we will be flying the flag for the Island at events across the south this year.”

Raw Samba has also agreed to play on a Wightlink ferry later this year as part of the company’s schedule of on-board musical events to entertain customers.

Wightlink Chief Executive Keith Greenfield says: “We are very happy to support a number of musical groups and organisations on the Island as part of our sponsorship programme and we are thrilled that once again Raw Samba will be among the musicians we will be assisting. They have a unique sound which will now be heard on the mainland as well as on the Island.”

Raw Samba has gone from strength to strength since it was founded in 2001, It currently has over 40 members who regularly practise each week, together with dancers and flag bearers.
