£2 adult fee when escorting a child

Wightlink are unable to assign staff to look after young persons aged 12 or under travelling alone on our vessels, and it is the responsibility of the child’s parent/guardian to make the necessary arrangements for an adult to accompany that child/children.

In order to assist parents/guardians of children in this matter, we have a system which will, subject to certain conditions being met, allow an escorting adult to travel to/from the destination on consecutive sailings at a special flat rate of £2.

To accompany a child the procedure is as follows:

  • The adult intending to travel provides a passport size photograph so Wightlink can produce a special identity card.

  • On the day of travel, the adult presents their card at the port and requests their special fare and at the same time purchases a single journey ticket on behalf of the child.

  • If the adult is travelling to collect the child, the child’s ticket is still purchased on the adult’s outward journey. In those circumstances, the Ticket Office staff should be asked to produce a ticket for the appropriate direction of the journey.

  • This special fare is applicable on consecutive sailings, the times of which will be marked on both the outward and return ticket portions.

  • Upon arrival at the Port, the adult should leave the vessel through the normal disembarkation procedures. After handing over/collecting the child they should reboard the vessel, again using the normal channels.

  • The special adult fare is only valid when used by the individual shown on the identity card for the sailings endorsed on the ticket. For either the outward or return leg, a child must, of course, be present.

Regular checks will be made to ensure that individuals using this concession fulfil all of the conditions of issue. Failure to observe the regulations will require the adult to pay the full price for the journeys undertaken. Furthermore, the special identity card and concessionary fare will be permanently withdrawn. The application form in respect of these arrangements is available at our ticket offices, but you will need to supply a passport-sized photograph for your identity card before you can travel at the special fare.

Wightlink Limited accepts no liability for any inaccuracy in the information contained in this leaflet, which may be altered at any time, without prior notice and also reserves the right to alter, amend or cancel any of the arrangements shown in this leaflet. January 2006
