Fifty years after the Isle of Wight made history at Afton Down with the biggest rock festival ever staged in the UK, Experience 1970 is returning to the iconic original island site at Afton Down, near Freshwater, to mark the anniversary from 4 – 6 September 2020.
Experience 1970 will honour the 1970 festival greats including Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, The Who, The Moody Blues, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Free and Rory Gallagher.
Artists from the original Isle of Wight Festivals have already been confirmed, with more major announcements expected in the next few weeks to unveil two major rock acts from the 1970 Isle of Wight Festival roster.
The iconic 1970 stage structure was designed and built by Isle of Wight resident and engineer Ron Turner Smith, who sadly passed away this year, will be recreated as a tribute to him. It was the world’s first large festival stage.
