Update for Wightlink customers who travel between Portsmouth and Fishbourne

Are you travelling overnight on Wightlink’s Portsmouth-Fishbourne route this autumn? If so, you need to know about some changes.

Wightlink will operate a temporary overnight timetable for five weeks (Monday 30 September – Friday 1 November) because of essential roadworks on Fishbourne Lane.

Island Roads will be reconstructing and resurfacing part of Fishbourne Lane in September and October 2019 as part of its programme of road maintenance throughout the Isle of Wight. There will be five weeks of overnight road closures and traffic will be controlled by temporary lights at other times.

Between Monday 30 September and Friday 1 November, Wightlink will cancel two overnight round-trip sailings between Monday and Thursday. They will be:

  • 22:00 from Portsmouth
  • 23:59 from Portsmouth
  • 23:00 from Fishbourne
  • 01:00 from Fishbourne

On Friday nights, the 22:00 from Portsmouth will be rescheduled to 21:00 and the 23:00 from Fishbourne will be rescheduled to 22:00. The 23:59 from Portsmouth and the 01:00 from Fishbourne will be cancelled.

Extra overnight sailings will be scheduled on the Lymington-Yarmouth route during closure periods.

Island Roads and Wightlink have worked closely together during the planning of these essential roadworks.

Wightlink staff have already notified customers that frequently use these overnight sailings and moved their bookings.

Wightlink Chief Executive Keith Greenfield says: “Unfortunately, some of our customers who travel overnight between Portsmouth and Fishbourne will be inconvenienced by these changes to our timetable, but these roadworks on Fishbourne Lane need to be done.

“We are working closely with our partners at Island Roads to minimise disruption and have scheduled extra overnight sailings on our Lymington to Yarmouth route during the closure periods.”

You can find out more about the Fishbourne Lane improvement works on the Island Roads website.
