Wightlink is one of the UK’s largest domestic ferry operators, providing a link between the Isle of Wight and the Hampshire mainland.

Based at our Lymington Terminal, in the New Forest the successful applicant will have knowledge of MCA requirements.

We welcome applications from candidates who ideally hold current a Chief Engineer Officer III/2 Motor with III/1 Motor or Chief Engineer III/2 Yacht (Y1) with III/1& III/2 2nd Engineer Motor Certificate of Competency.

The Survey Chief Engineer leads all aspects of shipboard survey/refit activity and would be expected to stand by the vessel during refit which is likely to be out of home port.

The Survey Chief Engineer is expected to liaise closely with the relevant Technical Superintendent.

The Survey Chief Engineer will be expected to be proactive and energetic in ensuring a successful, timely and to-budget refit.

As a technical professional the role requires the use of best practice for:

  • Environmental responsibility
  • Flag and classification standards
  • Planned maintenance and refits

Overseeing the technical standards on board and ensuring the effective implementation of the associated areas of the Safety Management System.

Effective liaison with management ensuring, full, clear and concise communications is essential. An ability to develop and motivate junior officers and engine room ratings is required, as well as ability to develop strong working relationships with the deck officers and ratings.
