Wightlink ‘in-vests’ in Island athletics club

Members of the Isle of Wight Athletic Club are now sporting brand new running vests thanks to the support of Wightlink.

With its focus on helping youth and sporting organisations on the Island, Wightlink was keen to step in and help the club with a £2,000 donation when it requested funding to upgrade its kit earlier this year.

Keith Greenfield, Wightlink Chief Executive, says: “We are proud to support the Isle of Wight Athletic Club which provides excellent opportunities for Isle of Wight youngsters to take part in positive, healthy activities and represent the Island at events across the country.

“We think the new distinctive black and gold kit looks superb and understand it has already made an appearance on the winning podium at recent events!”

Ray Scovell, one of the senior coaches at the Isle of Wight Athletic Club says, “We are very grateful to Wightlink for supporting the club. Without this donation it wouldn’t have been possible to upgrade our kit, which after 25 years was long overdue a refresh.

“The new vibrant yellow vests certainly make our athletes more prominent at events and easier to spot when they are out in front leading their races!”

The Isle of Wight Athletic Club has around 180 members competing at all levels in events around the country. The club is based at the Fairway Athletics Centre, Sandown where members meet for training on Monday and Wednesday evenings.

Several Isle of Wight Athletic Club members are part of the Isle of Wight Council’s Talented Athlete Scheme, which is also sponsored by Wightlink.
