Isle of Wight Resident Anna Constable on the beach

Inspirational Islanders: Anna Constable

Growing up at Whitecliff Bay Holiday Park where her dad was the entertainment manager, Anna has always had a love of the arts. She is currently studying at the Central School of Speech and Drama and travels to London twice weekly with her mum to attend a drama course especially for adults with autism and learning disabilities.

“The Island is a fantastic place to live. It has a huge community spirit which allows you to grow and flourish into the person you want to be. It’s small enough to feel safe and big enough to roam and be creative.

Anna loves Shanklin beach. It has everything you could want from ‘the beach experience’. ice-cream parlours, fish and chip shops and some very amusing seagulls! Anna likes nothing more than to sit on the sea wall, ice cream in one hand and a bag of chips in the other watching the world go by. Lovely.

There’s a walk that we like to do in the summer. It starts at Rew Lane in Wroxall and goes all the way through to Godshill. It feels like you’re in the wilderness, all you can hear are the birds singing. It takes you past Appuldurcombe House and the falconry centre, then on to Godshill for coffee and cake!

Anna’s most favourite thing to do on the Island is to go to the theatre. We have quite a few, ranging from modern ones like Medina Theatre and Quay Arts to the more traditional ones like Shanklin Theatre. We also have a large community of incredibly talented artists and a huge variety of shows to watch.

Wightlink’s sponsorship helps with travel costs and logistics, making our twice-weekly trips to London possible. Someone from Wightlink heard about our plight and changed everything. They just sort of scooped us up and made it happen! We’ve never been more grateful.”

Anna is supported by Wightlink in the Community.
