Inspirational Islanders: QUIVERS

Drag Idol UK 2022 semi-finalist, QUIVERS, is a stand-up comedian, songstress, host, DJ and general buffoon. Rumoured to be the Isle of Wight’s best-kept regret, their often sold-out live shows include music, comedy, puppetry and storytelling, as well as some outrageous self-constructed costumes.

“I adore living on the Isle of Wight – you can drive for twenty minutes and feel like you’re in a completely different place. It’s wonderful when you need to switch off from the day to day, to be able to quickly switch to enjoying your surroundings. Work-wise, the Island is somewhat of a microcosm of different venues, so it keeps work super varied.

All my other answers seem to revolve around the beaches and woods, so I’ll say my favourite place is The Olde Village Inn in Bembridge. It’s chilled and cosy, and also a tasty spot for a Sunday lunch or a burger with mates. Definitely the first place I take visitors coming over.

Appley is my closest beach and therefore the best place to run the dogs out to. I love how the seasons change and seeing how everyone enjoys the beach differently, whenever you head down, whatever time of year.

My favourite place to go for a walk has to be Firestone Copse. I can walk and get completely lost in the peacefulness, spotting red squirrels and chucking stick after stick for my beasts.

I used to live for Bestival. All my friends and I would wait all year for a weekend of magic in a field, so now any event that encapsulates a glimpse of that madness, such as Ventnor Fringe, is a winner. It’s a beautiful hot spot for talent and whimsy.

If we could somehow disregard the fact it probably takes the best part of an hour to get there once you get off the ferry, if I only had one hour on the Island, I would head straight to the south – the Compton, Blackgang areas. Grab an ice cream, let the dogs have a swim, and hide in the cliff sides.”
