Wightlink’s viral TikTok ferry video – the ASMR Mercedes Parody

We’ve been overwhelmed by the popularity of our recent TikTok video, which gives an ASMR tour of Wightlink’s Wight Ryder at Portsmouth Harbour. We’ve hit more than 1m views and have been featured on ITV This Morning – where we made Holly Willoughby and Josie Gibson chuckle – and various BBC Radio stations across the country, including local Radio Solent.

A film made by a Moscow car dealership – Jetcar – features a woman giving a sensory guide of a pink Mercedes vehicle. With a microphone close to hand she shuts doors, winds down windows, feels the seats and taps her nails across the car’s badge, while repeatedly saying “Mercedes” into the mic.

Our social media team were inspired by TikTok legend Tyler Butterworth, who did his own version of a popular ASMR film using a military vehicle.

You can watch our ferry version below or over on Wightlink’s TikTok.

ASMR videos (short for Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response) have taken the social media world by storm and have a unique ability to bring a sense of calm, relaxation and sometimes a spine-tingling sensation to viewers with sound.

Team members Fern and Lisa didn’t waste a moment when they spotted the Mercedes ASMR parody on TikTok, thinking that a ferry version would be a perfect addition to the trend.

Marketing Executive Lisa says: “The magic of TikTok is that it can take marketing to crazy new levels. I’ve been building our platform over the past few months and the Mercedes spoof video, which started as a bit of fun between us, has gone further than we ever anticipated! I hope we have encouraged more people to explore what Wightlink does from this peek behind the scenes, and of course, the wonderful Isle of Wight itself”

Marketing Assistant Fern adds: “I worked on the car ferries as an Assistant Steward before joining the Marketing Department. Lisa and I had too much caffeine one afternoon while brainstorming social media ideas and decided to have some fun creating some new content. We never expected it to go so viral! We’re loving all the funny comments and seeing the trend spread!”
