Ryde Pier walkway and vehicle lane closure 25 - 28 September 2026

What's happening?
As part of the ongoing improvements at Ryde Pier Head, the foot passenger walkway and vehicle lane will be closed to all customers from 25 September until 28 September 2026 while our engineering teams install a new electrical cable between Ryde Esplanade and Ryde Pier Head.
Why is this work taking place?
As part of essential infrastructure improvements at Ryde Pier Head, we will be upgrading the electrical power supply. The existing cable, which provides around 50% of the port’s power, is nearing the end of its service life and needs to be replaced to ensure a safe and reliable power supply for the future.
Access to and from Ryde Pier Head
During this period, anyone travelling to or from the Ryde Pier Head FastCat service will need to use the Island Line train to and from Ryde Pier Head.
Wightlink customers will be able to travel free of charge on Island Line services between St John’s Road, Ryde Esplanade and Ryde Pier Head.
Customers will be required to present a valid Wightlink ticket or pass to travel free of charge.
Accessibility
We’d also like to reassure customers with accessibility needs that the Island Line service is fully equipped to support your journey.
Ramps for wheelchair and mobility scooter users are available – simply ask a member of station or on-board staff for assistance.
Ryde Pier Head Car Park
All vehicles must be removed from Ryde Pier Head by 22:00 on Friday, 25 September.
Access during the closure period will only be possible for emergency services. Vehicle access and parking will resume from 05:00 on Monday, 28 September.

Alternative car parking
Pay and Display parking is available at St Johns car park.
Season Ticket holders with a valid 30-day parking permit are advised to park free of charge at St John’s Car Park during the closure period and should ensure their parking permit is clearly displayed.
Environmental considerations
The cable ducting is already in place, so our engineers will simply feed the new cable through the existing pipe. This means there is no risk of debris entering the water. The old cable will be removed as part of the same work.
Temporary lighting will be used where needed to allow the engineers to work safely during the darker hours.
