Wightlink celebrates community champions at annual partnership event

Wightlink welcomed around 200 guests to Quay Arts in Newport last week for its annual Wightlink in the Community celebration, recognising the achievements of the many talented individuals and groups it supports across the Island.

From rising sports stars to charity organisers, musicians and performers, the evening brought together a vibrant cross-section of the Island’s community partners. Over coffee and cake, guests had the opportunity to connect, share their stories and meet members of the Wightlink team in a relaxed and informal setting.

Wightlink proudly supports more than 50 sports, charitable and cultural groups and almost 80 individual athletes through the Isle of Wight Council’s Talented Athlete Scheme. The sponsorship scheme forms part of Wightlink in the Community – the company’s commitment to giving back to the Island through long-term support for grassroots organisations, as well as standout individuals.

Abi Millichamp from Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary said: “It was great to have the opportunity to meet more of the Wightlink team and to thank them for their support for the 127 animals that we look after. Any time that we need emergency transport to a mainland equine hospital, Wightlink provides us with travel assistance which is vital for us as a charity and something we really appreciate.”

Ross Hammond from Oakfield Youth FC said: “If it wasn’t for Wightlink our young players wouldn’t have the opportunity to go off the Island every weekend to play football – so we are so grateful for their support.”

Katy Taylor, Wightlink’s Chief Executive, said: “It was great to meet so many talented teams and individuals and hear first-hand how our support has helped them. We’ve been supporting Island causes for almost 40 years and it has been such an inspiring night to have everyone in the same room.

“We’re proud to stand alongside so many talented and inspiring people who achieve great things and give so much back to their communities.”
