Bee swarm creates a buzz at Ryde Pier Head

It wasn’t just the festival causing a buzz at Wightlink’s Ryde Pier Head terminal this weekend.

A swarm of around 500 bees decided to make themselves at home at the end of the pier on Sunday (21 June), attracting attention from passengers and staff alike.

Wightlink called in local bee expert Laura Saddler, known as the “Bee Lady”, to safely collect the swarm and relocate it to nearby hives.

Martin Gulliver, Wightlink Operations Manager, said: “We are really grateful to Laura for making sure the bees were removed safely so they can now enjoy life in a far more suitable
location.”

The bees were successfully removed without incident and have now been given a new home at local hives, ensuring the ferry terminal could continue operating as normal
