Cancer Research UK will benefit from Wightlink’s 2020 calendar

Wightlink’s 2020 charity calendar, featuring stunning views of ports and ships in all weathers captured by the ferry company’s staff, is now on sale at shore cafés and on board car ferries. There are images from all three routes – car ferries between Portsmouth-Fishbourne and Lymington-Yarmouth together with the Portsmouth Harbour-Ryde Pier Head FastCat service.

Steward Ben Rue from Ryde, who took the photo chosen for the front cover, has chosen Cancer Research UK to receive all proceeds from this year’s calendar, which costs £2.

“Cancer touches all of our lives so I decided it should be our charity this year,” he explains. “Thanks to medical research, more and more people are surviving the disease. Everyone who buys a calendar will help the scientists with their work.”

Ben is a keen photographer and no fewer than six of his pictures are included in the 2020 calendar.

A judging panel, led by Chief Executive Keith Greenfield, made the difficult decision of which of the 115 images submitted should be included. “As Wightlink ships sail through some of the most beautiful waters in the UK, it’s not surprising that all the photos were fantastic. We had a hard job to choose just 13 of them,” he says.
