Purr-fect start to 2020 for an Isle of Wight cat charity

Enough food to feed a cat for a year was donated by generous Wightlink customers following an appeal organised by one of its employees in support of Nine Lives Cat Rescue on the Isle of Wight.

Feline fan Steward Anni Ruecroft was overwhelmed by the support shown by Wightlink’s customers across all three cross-Solent routes during her Christmas cat food appeal and was delighted to present the donated goodies to Rosemary Jelley who runs the centre in Wroxall.

More than 700 meals were donated during the appeal, plus toys, treats, dishes and blankets.

Anni says: “The generosity shown by our customers has amazed me and I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who donated items. Nine Lives is a small rescue and rehoming centre run solely by Rosemary so, thanks to the items we collected, she will be able to focus its precious funds on vet bills for the cats in her care.”

The Nine Live Cat Rescue Centre looks after felines from a variety of backgrounds – from abandoned kittens and strays to cats whose owners can no longer care for them due to ill health or bereavement.

Rosemary Jelley says: “This has been a wonderful start to the new year! We are really grateful to Anni and her colleagues at Wightlink for organising the collections and to their customers who have given so generously. As a small centre funded entirely by donations, the cat food and gifts from Wightlink’s appeal makes a huge difference to us and the cats we care for. Thank you.”
