Wightlink pays tribute to its apprentices

Wightlink is encouraging companies to seize their opportunities to bring young people into the business, during National Apprenticeship Week.

The ferry company has taken on seven apprentices in various areas over the last couple of years and all are progressing well.

The young men and women are working in Engineering, Estates, Revenue, Marketing, Customer Experience, Human Resources and Port Operations departments.

“We were delighted to welcome our latest apprentices to Wightlink,” says Chief Executive Keith Greenfield. “Our young people have brought new perspectives to the company and are already valued members of the team. We would encourage other companies to find out how apprentices can contribute to their businesses.”

Marketing apprentice Lisa Thurbon says: “College and university aren’t for everyone, so I feel there should be more awareness of the apprenticeship option. I have always been interested in Marketing and it was just my luck Wightlink advertised this position at the perfect time.”

Customer Experience apprentice Paddy Wall adds: “I know every day I’m learning skills while completing tasks, as well as earning an honest wage. I’ll hopefully end the year with the qualifications needed in order to progress further.”
