Wightlink supports the Isle of Wight’s Christmas campaign to cut waste and recycle more

Wightlink has welcomed a team from Amey on board its new fuel-efficient Fishbourne to Portsmouth car ferry Victoria of Wight as part of an Island-wide tour to spread the festive waste reduction and recycling message.

The events have been organised to remind people how to recycle what they can and advise what to do with items such as broken Christmas decorations, glittery wrapping paper and cards, which cannot be recycled.

Amey’s experts are also focusing on reducing food waste by giving recipe ideas on using up seasonal leftovers such as turkey, vegetables, desserts and cheese, as well as giving handy tips on how to make food last longer.

While the roadshows target residents, Amey and the IW Council turned to Wightlink to help get the message to visitors and commuters.

“As a company that takes our responsibility to the environment extremely seriously, we were delighted to have the Amey team on board,” says Operations Director Daryl Palmer.

“We were particularly pleased to host Amey aboard Victoria of Wight. Where better to spread this important environmentally-conscious message to the travelling public than on board the Solent’s only hybrid-energy ferry?”

The team from Amey will also be talking to customers on Ryde Pier Head on Thursday 20 December between 09:45 and 15:50.
