Portsmouth Gunwharf

About

Portsmouth, one of Britain’s most vibrant port cities, has excellent motorway and rail connections for anyone planning a visit to the Isle of Wight.

The port has state-of-the-art facilities, including two-tier boarding onto ferries, and can be used by both vehicles and foot passengers. It’s situated on Gunwharf Road, only a short walk from the Gunwharf Quays shopping outlet.

Our flagship ferry Victoria of Wight serves this port alongside St Clare and St Faith. Wight Sun also runs from this port when she’s needed, getting you from Portsmouth over to Fishbourne on the Isle of Wight.

What to expect at the port

In your vehicle

When you arrive, follow the arrows to the booth and pull up – a member of our team will then check your ticket and direct you to a lane in which to park and wait for the ferry. Feel free to use our port facilities but do try to be back in your vehicle and ready to go at least 15 minutes before your booked sailing time.

When you’re instructed to board the ferry, please follow the team’s instructions. Switch off your headlights. When you drive onto the ferry the crew will direct you to a parking space on deck. Be aware of passengers walking across decks and other vehicles parking on board.

On foot

Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled sailing time and head to the right of the ground floor boarding ramp, where there is a separate foot passenger entrance.

Someone will scan your ticket and you’ll be let on board either before or after vehicles. You’ll be crossing the vehicle deck of the ferry so make sure to follow the teams’ instructions and head for the stairs and lift entrance, from where you can head up to the passenger lounges.

If you’re bringing along a bicycle, please leave this on the vehicle deck at the front of the ferry.
