Following his success in the Britain’s Got Talent auditions, Derek Sandy is set to make an appearance on a series of Wightlink ferry crossings over the next few weekends. An island favourite turned national treasure, Derek is best known for his song ‘Welcome to the Isle of Wight’, which earned him four yeses on the hit talent show.

Derek will be performing on several of our crossings between Portsmouth and Fishbourne.

  • Saturday, 18 May, 11am and 1pm crossings
  • Saturday, 25 May, 11am and 1pm crossings
  • Saturday, 1 June, 11am and 1pm crossings
  • Thursday, 13 June, 11am and 1pm crossings

Derek will be spreading his love of the Isle of Wight to all passengers on board our newest vessel – Victoria of Wight – who will be treated to a ferry crossing like no other.

Derek said: “I can’t wait to perform on board Wightlink’s Victoria of Wight this summer and share my love of the Isle of Wight with the passengers and crew. I’m really happy that my music has raised the profile of the Island and hope it will encourage more people to visit in the future.”

Interested in seeing Derek live on board? Prices start at £17 per adult and £8.50 per child for a day return on foot. What’s more, on Saturday 25th May and Saturday 1st June, children aged 15 and under can travel completely free with our Kids Go Free offer during the school holidays.

Derek Sandy’s Welcome to the Isle of Wight Lyrics

Oh to the Island and land of the free.
Together we’ve been living in harmony.
With hope for our future prosperity.
You really don’t know
how much this means to me.
From golden beaches
to the fields so green.
It’s truly the best thing I’ve ever seen.

Welcome to the Isle of Wight,
I hope you’re gonna stay a while.
Welcome to the Isle of Wight,
You can share this paradise.
Welcome to the Isle of Wight,
Welcome, welcome
Come, come, come,
Welcome, welcome, welcome
Welcome, welcome,
Come, come, come,
Welcome one and all.
Welcome, welcome,
Come, come, come.
Welcome to the Isle of Wight,
I hope you’re gonna stay a while.
Welcome to the Isle of Wight,
You can share this paradise.
Welcome one and all.

Thank you for giving me this opportunity
to enjoy its beauty.
In a land where children can run free,
Steeped in so much history.
There’s so much here for you and me,
So take a journey across the sea.
